The Incredible Jesper Bram

jbram13

Hit up a car show or a Rockabilly event, even a car collector Museum and your sure to see some Pinstripes.

Well, I have become a huge fan of Denmark's Traditional and Kustom Pinstriper Jesper Bram.

Getting a chance to ask him a round of questions was a delight for sure....

DRR - Well I have to say I am a pretty eager to do this interview! I love your work
and you a quite the artist.

JB - Thank you very much.

DRR - How did all this start? I mean were your drawing? Painting?

JB - I've been drawing all my life and worked 15 years in advertising before I
decided to get into the Kustom Kulture art scene.

DRR - What age were you?

JB - I was around thirty when I realized that other artists where making a living
from drawing monsters, skulls, and cool cars etc. I did that stuff since I
was a kid. I was never really into the more classic style of drawing and
painting. The closest thing to something I liked that was "recognized" as
art, was Pop Art and poster art. So when I got aware that there was an
entire scene for Kustom Kulture art, it was like returning home after a very
long journey.

DRR - When did you start Pinstriping? Airbrushing?

JB - Actually started airbrushing when I was 16-17, but more or less quit it
after a few years when I got more into computer graphics. It wasn't until
around 2006 when I started pinstriping that I picked up airbrushing again.

DRR - What has been your favorite Car you have done?

JB - That's impossible to answer. I've been privileged to work on some pretty
damn cool cars and I couldn't pick one out. But I know that I do my best
work for customers who gives me a few hints of what they desire and then
lets me interpret on that. On classic vehicles my favorite style is the
subtle work that enhances the flow and shapes of the vehicle instead of
stealing all the attention. Of course a big rusty rat rod with a zombie
munching on brain kebab painted on the doors is not bad either :-D

DRR - What inspires you?

JB - Happy customers who appreciate that high quality work takes time and doesn't
come cheap. It inspires me to do my very best, when I have time to strive
for a job that is even better than the customer could imagine. Hanging out,
exchanging techniques and watching other artists work is also very inspiring
to me. There's no school who teach this art form. You can only learn from
the masters, practice and by sharing with your fellow artists.

DRR - Do you own a old car? A bike?

JB - Yes, I own a '65 Chevy pickup, and a '73 Shovelhead Harley.

DRR - What is your favorite band? Music?

JB - Mostly old rock'n roll and metal. I grew up listening to everything from
Johnny Cash to AC/DC. Again it's really hard for me to pick a favorite. Kind
of depends on my mood. I prefer music played on actual instruments and with
vocals. Techno, Hip Hop and stuff like that is rarely something I listen to.

DRR - Your favorite auto show/event?

JB - Bottrop comes into mind, but Bedrock in Denmark is also very nice. Next
weekend is South Island Rumble also in Denmark. It'll be my first time
there. They have a really great band line up, so I'm looking very much
forward to that.
DRR - How can reach you? Where can we find your stuff?
